Char, I want to borrow a college student too. Do you think he would wash walls and windows? L.O.L.

Mike, I think it is a bring your own dinner thing.  I'm not sure, though.  I'm planning on bringing our own stuff and maybe  larger pasta salad for anyone who would like to try some.

Chuck,

I wouldn't mind playing poker but, just like golf, I'm not sure what I play is actually called poker.  Approximately every other hand someone has to tell me what beats what..............................................

I hope you all saw the email from Preston with the details of the reunion. Note that the Friday night get together has been changed to the Patio at South High (SLCC).

A little more information about The Friday event would be appreciated.  So Sugarhouse Park is out?  Are we just getting together to chat or are we bringing our own dinner to suppliment cookies and water or what?

SLCC won't let you bring in any food or drinks, whatsoever! Very adamant to us about that. It will be purely a social evening, Susan Hansen from the South High Alumni Board will be giving tours starting at 6:00. She is grasciously donating her time to do this.

Walking the halls of old South High was nostalgic for John Mathews and me when we went to check out the patio for our August 28th Friday night free get together. THIS IS THE NEW SITE FOR FRIDAY NIGHT! We hope this solves some of the many concerns people raised by going to Sugarhouse Park. This will be fun with air conditioning inside and a shaded patio outside. We are so sorry about the no outside food issues but this may be the time to really hook up and visit with old friends over pizza etc. What old/new stories popped into our head as the surroundings triggered "do you remember...."sentences from both of us. Great fun! Please inform all our friends of this change. ON SOUTH HIGH.

I was a Glendale kid!!! Maybe not one of the 'in' crowd but the neighborhood I moved into after I was married allowed me to be friends with Eugene Terry, music teacher at Glendale Jr and also Kathy Bosen Derrick, my forever best friend ??Life has been good to me and although I don't post a lot, I do read every single comment everyone else makes.....thanks for sharing!

I'm glad things worked out for the Friday evening activity at South!!  Speaking for myself (and I assume for many who have been back to the school, as Preston indicated) just visiting again, despite the changes, can be quite a "deja vu" experience - a journey back in time that resurrects many forgotten memories and emotions. What has been missing on my past visits to the old "alma mater" were the friends and acquaintances that are the real key to my attachment to the place. And with the opportunity for many of us to be together again - at that venue – I anticipate the coming “walk down memory lane” will be a treasured and unforgettable experience.

Like Colleen, I'm also a Glendale girl, and read every post although I seldom comment.  I went to the 40th reunion in the park like a frightened little schoolgirl, but enjoyed myself thoroughly!  I'm looking forward to the reunion in August and hope to see many of the Glendale group there too.  Char, I'm a little concerned about the gold that is supposed to be discovered in the pot at the end of the rainbow.  --just sayin'

I was never "out there" like some of the other kids but I too am a Glendale girl.  I am really looking forward to seeing everyone again.  Like Jeff I am excited that we will be at the school on Friday.  I moved away and have only been back inside once when I went to see "Fiddler" performed there.  Combining the friends and the halls will be the best way to trip down memory lane!  I want to say a BIG thank you to all those that have worked to make this an opportunity to come together for a wonderful reunion!

Thanks Patty, Colleen, Linda, and Jeff.  I remember each of you fondly.  It is amazing how we cling to those forming years at Glendale and South.  At the time I couldn't wait to be finished with school, but as I look back I wish I could relive a couple of those wonderful years.

I would have dated every girl in the school!!!!!!

Let's find some more West of State Steet Glendale kids.

I had kind of a strange experience tonight. I was on a tour bus with a group from Handi Quilter headed from Layton to North Salt Lake and the bus driver was kind of a chatty guy. It turned out he had graduated ftom South High in 1973. He asked me if I knew that Coach Schwab had died a few months ago. None of you had posted anything that I had noticed. So I quickly looked up his obituary and he actually died a year ago yesterday. The obituary had this cute picture of him in his sailor's uniform. I just looked back in the Message Forum and I didn't see any posts about it.

Charlotte, I am friends on the South High Facebook page and the notification of Coach Moroni Schwab's passing was covered there with many pictures and awards he had won. People wrot rememberances and stories from his past. You might look there if you are interested.  I just thought everyone knew.  Ken Schwab, Peggy Walkingshaw, Joyce Petersen, and I all chose to go to Utah State.  Our on campus housing was right together and we got to be good friends. I felt sad for Ken's loss but never thought to post it to this page. The facebook page connects to email and I have seen many death notices of former Cubs.  You might want to check it out!

Thank you Pres....... someone else finally gets it.smiley When you walk into South it has changed sooooooo much, but the old South Spirit is still there...right? You forget the bad stuff and get compleatly wrapped up in the spirit of all the events that have beenliving among those walls since South was built. The pep assemblies, school plays, sports games, friendships, love affairs, and the classes that shaped who we would become. Teachers... some became friends, some we'd like to forget but even then we learned something. Did anyone else have teachers that their parents had when they were cubs?

I don't care who you are or what you thought of yourself 45 yrs. ago, going back to South now is an adventure every cub should experience.

Mary Benson (Bendixen)

To all you great cubs that have posted words of encouragment, advice and wonderful memories, thanks!  It's been so fun to read your posts over the past year.  Charlotte, Frank, Colleen, Jeff, Linda, Patty, Earlene, Gloria, Pres, Tony, Bart, Deeanna, Sue, Chuck, Mike, Gerd Etc. I remember everyone of you awesome people.  You all made South High a fantastic place of learning and fun.  I really don't think there is a class that had more fun and is closer that the class of 1970.  We are truely blessed to have each other....even if we don't have that many summers left (that's what Glen and I joke about). And who the heck cares is we're saggy, baggy and gray? We're all the same age you know.  I can't wait to see all of you in August.  Please get the word out to our classmates.  This will be a blast!                                   Oh, and HAPPY FATHER'S DAY TO ALL YOU DAD'S!!!!

06/20/15 02:09 PM #2242

Deeann Loveridge (Reynolds)

Thank you Mary. I also remember you very well.  As I've been trying to think back 45 years it is individual people I remember. If I could change anything from those days it would be extending myself more to others, being more interested in more people, their ideas and beliefs.  But, apparantly, it's not too late to try again!

Charlotte-  I am really surprised that I didn't post anything about Coach Schwab's passing.  What a great guy he was/is, and it was a wonderful experience to attend his funeral over in Garden City and visit again with his family.  They had so many photos and memerabilia from times past.  And so much wonderful praise for his life and all he accomplished.

He was such an awsome guy!  I still am very proud to show off the A+ he gave me in driver's ed.  And he was always so sweet to me since I was one of few that spent a lot of time at the wrestling matches.  I got a lot of kidding from him...but a lot of hugs too.

Oh, now I see that I did post something on our site.  Deborah Wendall Williams posted his obit here, and then I think my post was after I attended the funeral.  I knew there had to be something here....it's back on 6/18/14ish.
