Have fun boys.Well, I guess I can get the credit for the kickoff of the Rich n' Jerry Hour of Political Nonsense.  Hilarious.  You guys own this page with a your posts, so have fun sharing you "opinions".

Gerd, if you had a population of 1.4 billion people, would you worry more about domestic discontentment over what a puny nation of 330 million might say or do?  There isn't a plan of world domination, it is a plan to raise the standard of living for 1.4 billion Chinese and keep them happy.  Their economic grow is astounding.  America should be reading their economic theories instead of peddling stupid Trickle Down Theories practiced here for the last 40 years.

Keystone?  There is a joke.  Transport Canadian oil across critical American aquifers to refine oil for export to other countries.  They just started the pipeline and it already leaks.  By all means, let make America a bitch for Canadian oil.  Have fun boys.

The Chinese Communist Party is looking out for their people to ensure they are happy campers?  Read the book I suggested.   Another perspective.    What is China's economic theory and how would it work in America.

Gerd, your book of One Hundred Year Marathon is not a recognized impartial account of China.  Here is a review from defensenews.com of this book:  "...it is shameless self-promotion as Pillsbury inserts himself into history with redundant "I, me, my" injects throughout the text. Those interested in a far more critical analysis of Pillsbury's modus operandi can go no further than Soyoung Ho's "Panda Slugger" in the Washington Monthly in the July/August 2006 issue."

Yes, the Chines Communists have been helping the people.  For simplicity, UNICEP reports, "Data indicates that during the 1990–2015 period, 746 million people in China were lifted out of poverty as defined by the updated extreme poverty line, accounting for 65.3 per cent of the total number of people lifted out of poverty in the world during the same period."

The Chinese economic growth, since 1949, can be more directly attribute to the greed of American business to fill their pockets that to any diabolical desires of the Chinese.  Not to mention the insatiable desires of the American consumer to buy more consumables than any other nation.

I watched passively as the right wing has demaned it's right to speak it's mind, even in jest.

As you all know I can scrap with the best when it comes to political differences.  I choose not to do it here out of respect for the majority of our classmates who don't like it.

I think that is called "respect."

Escuse me if I choose to respect the rest of our classmates and leave you few to ideals and rhetoric.

Amazon has over 1,500 reviews of the book.  Average 4.5.  Take the time to read the book instead of one review.   The premise (contained in the sub title of the book) is confirmed by a friend who has dealt with China from a federal law enforcement perspective for over 20 years.

My daughter lives and works in China and if you think they are concerned for the welfare of their people and would also share those sentiments on us then you probably need to read a lot more than what you have already read. They have total and complete world domination in mind and nothing short of it.

Why does someone else's opinion, facts, or just muse frighten some of you. Just another learning experience that might even enhance your life.

Last comment on China.  From Robert Wray, director of FBI, in June 2020:

The director of the FBI has said that acts of espionage and theft by China's government pose the "greatest long-term threat" to the future of the US.

Speaking to the Hudson Institute in Washington, Christopher Wray described a multi-pronged disruption campaign.

He said China had begun targeting Chinese nationals living abroad, coercing their return, and was working to compromise US coronavirus research.

"The stakes could not be higher," Mr Wray said.

"China is engaged in a whole-of-state effort to become the world's only superpower by any means necessary," he added.

A friend goes to China every year and coaches basketball there for a few months.     Consensus is that Chinese people are just like you and I.  Nice, accomodating,  gracious.  The CCP is not.  So it's not a criticism on the people, but the government there.  For years we believed if we played nice, they would adopt our 'way of life'.  Nope.

Gerd, I have been traveling extensively in China for the last two decades.  Not just the tours, but walking in rural communities of farmers, sharing food and meeting people of all walks of life in China.  I have many Chinese Nationalist as friends that I communicate with on a weekly basis.  What you think you know, you don't.  Honestly, there isn't much to see that is different between China and the USA.  I can say that Chinese people are happier than Americans.  The quality of life is better in China.  Of course, many people in the USA feel persecuted if they are required to wear a surgical mask.  So, I get how atrocious China might appear if their only knowledge comes second-hand from a prejudice source.  It is ironic that it doesn't matter if a media publication is Left-leaning or Right-leaning, it is fashionable to hate on China.  We have to blame someone, right?  What Christopher Wray said about China is correct.  Wray went on to say, "Confronting this threat effectively does not mean we shouldn’t do business with the Chinese. It does not mean we shouldn’t host Chinese visitors. It does not mean we shouldn’t welcome Chinese students or coexist with China on the world stage. But it does mean that when China violates our criminal laws and international norms, we are not going to tolerate it, much less enable it." That works for me.  China has actively been pursuing corruption and prosecuting (which includes the death penalty) those involved among Chinese officials.  Hell, I wish we did the same prosecution of corruption in America.  But, we convict the guilty in America and then turn around and pardon them.

You might want to go back to 1839 and look at the American involvement in forcing the sale of British Opium to the Chinese people and the ransacking of Chinese art and artifacts. Our slate isn't very clean when you consider the USA illegally sold guns to a foreign power and used the profits to fund a rebel groups attempts to overthrow a legitamite foreign government.  The word "propaganda" was first coined in the USA.  American corporations are constantly suing each other for theft of intellectual property in China.  Get over it.  It is not as simplistic as you wish to think.

Ken, I don't think the issue is or has been about the people of China. My daughter has lived in China for nearly 5 years and she loves the people and she has been hignly respected and is now teaching in a university in China. The issue, like our situation here, is the government. The people have been brainwashed into thinking the the government is there for the people but, as we have learned, the government becomes so big that it becomes a government with people instead of a government for the people. Hong Kong is a perfect example. If you want a true understanding of the situation start a pen pal or internet chat with a Hong Kong citizen.

Personally I'm glad this conversation is happening and am hopeful that the impulse to attack and degregate is replaced with an interest to listen to others and pick and choose what is comfortable and leave the rest. This whole dialogue has been framed by unnecessary judgement and chastisement and lack of respect. The word respect has been used here, but only one way. I'm sure each of us, and there are more than you think, can get excited and even enlightened by contributions from all different areas besides what is common to everyone, a birthday.

Our friendships at South were not based on birthdays but in our similarities and differences. We aren't demanding someone "allow" the Right, it is already there so try to share, you may find even more reasons for our friendships than what we found as young people.

Or maybe not!

I'm very serious about learning more about what being in the center of the movers and shakers in Washington DC was like. Even if it has to happen under another venue, Jerald, please send me an email, I have a hundred questions and would love to update a blog I post to. rbsslc@yahoo.com

Charlotte, great to hear the shots have finally reached our age group. Do you mind sharing your experience getting scheduled for the injection? I called Smiths, because they have signs up at every pharmacy, that leads you to a phone number that leads you to a webpage, that guides you to selecting locations in your State only to find the Utah does not have any inventory yet! Sounds like it's going to be a puzzle to figure out, hope you can help us understand the process you went through.

Thanks

Ken, the same type of guns for drugs for guns was the motivation for the Iran Contr affair. Turns out that Oliver was the puppet for the exchange of weapons to free our American hostages. Bill Clinton, not yet the governor of Arkansas, was running a hugh cocaine operation in Arkansas before and into his governorship. The cocaine profits were used to provide the money for the purchase of the weapons that were traded for the release of the hostages. The actual release was agreed to happen after Carter lost the election so it would give political points to Ronald Reagan. Many people, even two young boys that were in the wrong place at the wrong time, were murdered to hide the Clinton drug cartel. Clinton was promised he would be President of the US for his part in the secret CIA deal to free the hostages.

Not many would believe Me...indeed They would laugh, if I said ANYTHING about the Clintons and MANY of Their friends (Obama being the WORST), concerning 9-11, the Murder of India-ns, The Drug Cartel, the organized MURDER of Our Ambassadors...never mind, this is doing NO good and I'm almost done donning My clown costume, Sooo....I think I will change identities from Bozo to Clarabell - shutting My mouth but tooting My horn (which is what I do best) :-)

Richard, and others, I had very little trouble getting my vaccination appointment. I didn't bother going through the pharmacies because their supplies are much more limited. I went here: https://slco.org/health/COVID-19/vaccine/seniors/    as soon as appointments were available. I was given a choice of 3 places to go: The Maverick Center (which is drive  through) Mountain America Center (formerly South Towne) and the Salt Palace. I tried for the Maverick Center first but it was full. So then I went for the Salt Palace. Then you will need to fill out their form which will give you a tiny bit of grief if you don't do everything exactly as they want it. By the way, I was told that your wait times may be longer at the Maverick Center because it just moves slower.

After that it was a piece of cake. The underground parking at the Salt Palace is free. They have plenty of people to guide you where to go. When I went yesterday it was not crowded at all but that was the only Sunday they are going to do. The only waiting I had to do was the required 15 minutes after the shot but I spent that time filling out the online form for my second shot.

Get your vaccinations everybody! Let's get this virus under control!

Ken, the only corporations and people that support your view of the CCP seem to be those who profit from buying from or selling to China.  Cheap labor and huge profits    That's capitalism but that doesn't change the goal of global geopolitical dominance.

Hey Rich, there was no trade for hostages.  Amazing how this propaganda gets spread around.  I doubt you would believe me, so here is Ronald Reagan explicitly stating there was not a trade of guns for hostages.  By the way Freedom of Speech should always be honored.  Spreading BS propaganda should be against the law. That's just my "opinion".   https://youtu.be/rYdvBZxPhLY

Char, thanks for the info. I am fine with all of the back and forth above, the various views are interesting, except for Dale's labelling of people (Right Wingers) with different views and Ken's condescending comments like the Rich and Jerry show. Really fellows, you can't help but put someone down. Lift yourselves up from that.

Excuse me Jim but it was in deference to you that I stopped posting my views on this site after you accused us of turning it into a political shit-show.  I guess it's okay now for me to share my political views without putting poeple down.  In my mind I didn't put anybody down, all three of these guys have made it clear what their views are and they are proud of it.  I don't disagree with these folks and thier views on China.  The fear of China and world domination goes back to Chiang Kai Sheck promisising to march seven men abreast at us from now until eternity.  This after less than 50 years of freedom from domination by European colonizers after the Boxer Rebellion.  I assume our fear of China explains why our military has been garrisoned around China since WWII.

Throughout history attempts at world domination have failed for different reasons but the British came nearest during the 17th Centrury when the sun never set on British terrotory.

Coming back to the present I'm curious why nobody is paying attention to Russia trying to recreate the old Soviet Block.

Gerd, there are many small businesses in Utah selling to the Chinese and buying from them.  It is silly to think that only large corporations benefit from a relationship with China.  One thing, let's face it, you do not leave money laying around because someone is going to take it.  Yes, China will take advantage of what is laying around.  They will look for it and pay for it.  Now let's get real.  The USA will do exactly the same thing.  There are crooks everywhere.  It doesn't help that the USA vigilance is so poor as demonstrated by the recent, and major hack by Russia. My only point for all of this is, when you or I say another country is bad, this is like the pot calling the kettle black.  It is pointless.

I did get my vaccine at the Salt Palace the other day.  The whole process was a breeze.  My only complaint was the rinky-dink vaccination card I receive that I will be expected to use for international travel.  I would have been willing to pay for something that looks official than something I could make in my computer.

Ken. The whole Iran hostage situation involving Oliver North is very well documented and did happen, perhaps your referring to something else.

Thanks Charlotte, I got my appointment and kind of looking forward to getting it out of the way.

Thanks Jim for your comments, I agree that the judging and arrogance is unnecessary for any open and productive exchange.
