Dale Charlie Salazar
I was having a terrible time in life in 1971 dying of starvation, flunking out of college and pulling a lottery number of 16. Larry Stettler of our class pulled #23 so we both decided to enlist for the draft on the Buddy Plan. Remember that?
It was great because a week after we started Boot Camp VOLAR was approved by Congress so we gat a fat pay raise. Three months later I got my draft notice when we were at Fort Polk in Infantry training. There I became one of the finest fighting men in the world and was well prepared to prove it.
I never saw combat but was on high alert several times through my service. Mostly activity by Black September and Badder Menihoff activists in Germany blowing up our installations.
Thank you all for your favorable comments as I'm honored that I wore the uniform and was ready to fight and die for the country.
Hats off to all Vets.
