Yeah, that morning sickness is NO fun...I get it EVERY morning too, but mine is from migraines :-( Once I got it from an IRS audit, and for several other causes, such as severe real-estate losses, starting in 2008 :-) I guess it's good to share all things, so We know what others are going through :-)

Ms. Gerri Sorben's obituary was in the Deseret News last Sunday. She passed away Saturday, January 14th at the age of 78. She was one of my better and more entertaining English teachers.

I saw her obituary as well, Richard. She was one of my favorite teachers at South. I remember we used to tease her about her accent, especially the way she would say "sorry"...good times...great memories!

Health Insurance Update . . .

Unless you've been living under a rock, with a Republican president now in office and Republicans controlling both the House and the Senate, I'm sure you are aware of the hoopla in Washington regarding the "repeal & replace" of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) with new legislation - as well the rumblings of more potential changes in other government healthcare-related programs, including Medicare.

Just yesterday, House Republicans unveiled their replacement plan (referred to as the American Health Care Act), which has already drawn opposition from critics; not only Democrats but also some House and Senate Republicans as well.  It's my opinion it will likely take considerable time for this, or any plan to work it's way through the legislative process, and that there will likely be many compromises, substantive modifications and tweaks along the way before final approval - if it ever gets that far.

The purpose of this post is not to proffer my opinion on current or future healthcare legislation, but as a health insurance professional, to let you know I follow related developments very closely, and am available as a resource to address questions you may have regarding how proposed changes may impact your individual situations.

Also, a reminder of my offer to provide advice and/or assistance in your transition to Medicare. I have appreciated the privilege of aiding many of our Class of '70 classmates with this perplexing process, and look forward to helping others as well if you would like to contact me.

I know everyone is Crazy-Ecstatic and Content, now that Trump is at the helm, but I still want to hear from Y'all, even if You haven't a care in the World. Did anyone else, out there, enjoy VW vans as much as I did ? (see previous).

Jerald I totally agree with you. My ex died two years ago at just 57 ( she often told me life is short.) A military buddy passed in January at 63, he was in good health according to his wife but never woke up one morning. Life is fleeting. Mainly because of that I have retired from Alaska State service and I am now retired and living large near Cebu Philippines. I was stationed twice in the Philippines during my many years in the Air Force so it seemed like a natural place to settle down. I love it here, it's the most beautiful place on Earth and has the most friendly people. Fantastic diving and snorkeling everywhere in Cebu. I bought a GoPro 5 last month to take videos of my dives. I will post them soon to You Tube.  For all the busy bodies out there, no I am not planing on marrying anyone too much younger than myself, however I am currently dating a 47 year old college professor ( more like a High School teacher in the US ).  Her family lives in Cebu and we live south in Dumaguete City on the island next to Cebu. I do miss everyone, you guys should try the golf courses here, they are truly fantastic. If any of you are heading this way look me up or email me and I'd be happy to show you around. We do stuff like swimming with sea turtles or the whale sharks, or sliding down waterfalls with aquamarine colored pools, or just laying on a white sand beach at midnight staring at the stars in the heavens above and listening to soft music with the soft crash of the waves in the background. Really I highly recommend the Philippines over Hawaii for a nice vacation. Take a flight thru Taiwan and the trip is many hours shorter.

Jerry, thanks for mentioning VW vans.  I had a VW pickup truck.  It was a blast.  Brings back a couple of memorable experiences.  First, Rory Boyakin threw a water balloon in front of the VW while I was driving.  It sounded like a cannon when it hit.  It looked like a head on crash.......from a simple water balloon.  Basically, there is nothing to support the front sheet metal that is the 'hood' of the VW.

Secondly, I had a bunch of guys loaded in the truck bed leaving South's, south parking lot.  There was a big dip entering 1700 So.  As all the weight shifted to the rear was i drove across the dip, the front end came off the ground and I couldn't steer so everyone had to get out, so I could steer.  Then they got back in.  Ah, the good old days when you could ride in the back of a pickup truck and catch the cool air while sitting on a couch in the bed of a truck.

Neil, been to the Philippines twice now.  First time, our visit included Cebu.  It is beautiful!  Unfortunately, the most memorable experience I took from Cebu was the flight back to Manila.  I  picked up my duffle bag at luggage claim and it was sopping (sp?) wet.  For some reason, the baggage handlers place a bag full of fish on my bag.........which broke.  I had to soak it in the bathtub full of body wash.  The maid must have wondered what was going on.

You are correct, the people, in most cases were very polite.  Except for the Abu Sayaff who had a tendancy to kidnap and behead people around the time we were there.  Just stayed off of Mindanao.  Our favorite spots in order:  Palawan, Cebu, 100 Islands, Baguio.......

We have talked about going there again but it is TOO FRIGGIN hot and humid there!

Enjoy your time there.  It is beautiful if you can stand the temps.  Love the jeepneys and trikes!

Since Jerry brought it up............anyone want to talk politics?  surprise

Elaine and I are going to have Rory Boyakin's new daughter-in-law over for a BBQ (Ehlert will be invited) to reflect on our memories of Rory, which she never had the opportunity to meet.  She and Rhett want to know more about Rory so they can share stories with their newborn son as he grows up.

Richard and I have many memories of Rory, but would like to expand the horizon.  To that end, if you have a fond memory about Rory, please send them along via messaging.  Thanks in advance!

Rory Boyakin . . . a genually nice guy.

In fact, I can honestly say, one of the nicest human beings I ever met!!

I'm honored i had the opportunity to know Rory.  I felt his power close up when three of us went up for a loose ball on the basketball court and I caught his hand smack on the nose.  He was so concerned that he hurt me and he was puzzled that I was luaghing while washing the blood from my nose at the fountain in the hall near the gym.  Seems everyone who knew Rory loved him.

...Yes, Rory really is !  Sorry I had to resort to a little Political ramblings...I figured that may get some dialogue going again, but, no worries, I won't try the same thing with Religion...ALTHOUGH...no, just kidding :-)

Jerry,

No VW van. But, I did own a 1962 Ford Econoline for many years. It was an old green telephone service truck from the state of Wyoming.

I bought it from a car lot near South High on Main St. The guy's name was Spike Tidbits. Turns out it was stolen!

Spike broke into a car lots office and started selling the car off the lot that he stole in Wyoming. I will never buy a car from a Guy wearing black and white checker pants ever again!

I fully customized the van inside and out and mortified the frame too. I have a picture of it somewhere if I can find it. I'll be happy show ya.

Then one day I was driving it to work in City Creek Canyon. A Yellow Cab ran a stop sign and "T-Boned" my "work of art". It was a total loss. But, I walked away.

Yellow Cab settled out of court with me... They wrote out a check for about half of what it was worth. They tow the van away somewhere. I never saw it again.

I still remember good old days of The Happy Valley Van Club rallies in Logan Utah. Fun times!

I think I had a pair of those pants! Way before I got in the car business. No used car salesmen jokes, either! I get offended easily! Right!
