Thanks for a great laugh Bart! I especially liked the commentary comparison of the lion dragging his gazelle across the field.  Good fun!

What happened to your post, Paul? Did you decide to withdraw it? I liked your rememberances, Richard!

Don't delete it, Paul! That a great song. Richard, see if you can come up with more stories - they're great. I've been trying to come up with something but I was such a boring, uptight person in high school.

It's great to hear that song of the Beach Boys, Paul.  That was such a fun one to hear them sing when they came to Lagoon!  Boy did it ever make the crowd go wild!

I loved those concerts at Lagoon. I seem to have recollection of you setting up your drum set there to play!  Those were fun days for sure!

Gloria, I can assure you that the reunion committee is working out the final details for the reunion.  We're just trying to make it affordable for everyone and make it so that it will be as conducive as possible for everyone to mingle and shoot the breeze.  We've met at least four times now and we have set the dates for August 28 at Sugarhouse Park and August 29 at South High but they don't have a bar for the drinkers so that is the main hangup right now.  We should have everything set by the end of the next couple of weeks.

Thank you Bart that helps. i don't understand the sugarhouse park deal. Liberty park, has the aviary, rides, and duck pond that we can choose to pay for or not. or Fairmont, has so much more to do, and lots of trees for shade, or Jordan park, with the peace gardens, they have huge pavilions and all.

Sugarhouse Park hasn't much to do. With the park pavilion rental of $50 you can pay another $50 to rent the toys, like horse shoes but i can't remember the rest. I love playing horseshoes it's good exercise and not to hard on us old folk.  If we each chip in a buck that would cover it...right? The only problem with the parks, that I can think of is, our Utah weather.

I'm really NOT trying to cause problems, or criticize, the reunion committee. What  do y'all think? As for the bar, To me that's not a deal breaker, Those who want a drink can go to Ritz classic, or one of the bars in the area, if they'll take me with them LOL.

Okay, you're sitting there at your puter EXERCISE THOSE CHUBBY FINGERS, AND VOICE YOUR OPINIONS AND IDEAS.

NOW BEFORE YOU FORGET.

I think the main thing we want for our reunion is to be able to shoot the breeze with each other and Sugarhouse Park is as good as any park for that.  It has large pavillions and a beautiful view of the mountains--and horseshoe pits.  It's also a place where a lot of us hung out during high school and soon thereafter so we have a lot of memories there, too.  Fairmont Park and Liberty Park are okay but not as conducive for having reunions.  Besides, we've already reserved Sugarhouse Park and it's probably way too late to get the other parks anyway.

I agree with you about the drinking part, though.  It's very difficult to accommodate everyone and if we accommodate drinking, it makes it much more expensive for everyone and I hope that wouldn't be a deal breaker for anyone not to come.

Sugarhouse Park is great.  Reminds me of the Sundays when the VW Car Club met there and we showed off our VW Beetles and just drove around with music blaring out of our cars.........after church, of course.

Since my wife was a Highland High Ram, we spent some time at Sugarhouse Park.......and we'll leave it at that.  cheeky

So, good choice.

We could always set up someone's trunk for a libation station but drinks don't have to be involved for some of us. The idea of just burning some burgers and dogs and seeing "old" faces is a lot better .

Ah yes, Sugarhouse Park.  A good place to score in high school until SLPD decided to raid the place.  I vividly remember all sort of silly hippie wannabees moving around, dancing and generally acting wierd.  And now all these later it has returned to just a park.

I do agree, Sugarhouse Park is more condusive to what we want to accomplish.

Gloria Simpson (Royal)

I disagree. Sugarhouse park has no shade, and i don't need any more wrinkles. But it's already arranged so i will , put on that yucky sunscreen, and try to make the most of it.

Chucky. i was one of those hippy's, and there was nothing silly about it. We had a point to make, and we made it. PEACE...LOVE.

The reunion is still going to be great and I can't wait to see y'a;ll again.smiley  KEEP SMILING, and don't take life to seriously.

Great comment Chuck.  Maybe we can still score smiley  I sure have a ton of memories at that park.

Well at least those that I can remember .....<smile>

Sugarhouse Park sounds great for the event.  Anyone going to bring Music to play?  We could have and OLD FASHIONED  stomp wink What do you say Cubs? As for libations  BYOB; then everyone can be happy.

Okay, the Reunion Committee met last night and here are the details for our 45-year reunion:

After a lot of meetings and discussion, we were able to get a sweet deal from the River Oaks Golf Course and Clubhouse at 9300 S. Riverside Drive (700 West) in Sandy, Saturday, August 29 at 6:00 for Happy/Social Hour and 7:00 for dinner. The cost is $25 per person, which includes tax and gratuity, table decorations, mailings, name badges, Sugarhouse Park reservations, etc.  The dinner will consist of grilled burgers, brats, chicken, baked beans, tossed salad, potato salad or pasta salad, fruit, cookie or brownie and beverage.  There will be a cash bar where beer will be provided at a cost to the drinker; other alcoholic beverages are BYOB and will be served by the bartender.

This is by far the best deal we could get to make it as affordable as possible for everyone.  Some of you might be disappointed that it isn't at the old South High but, after all was said and done, they couldn't even come close to matching what River Oaks offered us.  If you still have a hankering to re-create memories in the old building, you are welcome take a tour or class at SLCC, or see a show at the Grand Theater, our old auditorium.

We have also reserved Sugarhouse Park, Mt. Olympus Pavillion for 6:00, Friday, August 28, where you can bring your own dinner and drinks or just come and shoot the breeze for however long you want (or until the park closes).

Finally, there will be golf, Saturday, August 29 at River Oaks, with tee times starting at 9:00 a.m.  It will be a 4-person scramble and it will cost $54 per person.  If interested in golf, call Scott Seare at (801) 541-7510 or Lee Heinhold at (801) 598-8787.  Call John Mathews at (801) 875-1024 or Buck Post at (801) 243-4549 if you have questions about the reunion in general.  If you are not a golfer, you are welcome to stage another event of your choosing--horseshoes, chess, biking, tennis, pickleball, shuffleboad, quidditch, Bingo, or whatever!

We are in the process of setting up PayPal as we had for our 40-year reunion or you can send a check payable to 'South High Class of 1970' by August 15 to me at 1475 Mums Circle, Sandy, Utah 84092.  No payments will be accepted at the door.

Dress is casual, shorts included.

We hope that this will be satisfactory to the vast majority of our classmates.  The main thing we want is to have a chance to see some old Cubbies that we may never see again.  We hope that most of you can make it and enjoy some more good times with some old (very old) friends.

Many thanks to all the dedicated Cubbies who helped plan the reunion the past three months.

NO WAY! THEY TOOK THE ONLY THING THEY HAD RIGHT AND WENT BACK TO THE SAME OLD CRAP. I WILL NOT BE AT THE REUNION. I FEEL LIKE A COMPLETE FOOL. I HAVE BEEN TELLING EVERYONE WE WE'RE HAVING THE REUNION AT SOUTH AND EVERYONE WAS EXCITED AND WAITING FOR DETAILS.

DOES ANY ONE REALLY WANT TO PAY $25  FOR BEANS AND HOT DOGS AT A CLUB HOUSE? I DON'T THINK THEY HAVE HEARD A DAMN THING WE HAVE BEEN SAYING.

I WAS SO LOOKING FORWARD TO THE REUNION, AND HAVE HAD SO MUCH FUN TRYING TO RALLY UP EVERYONE AND PERSUADE THEM TO COME THIS YEAR.

So are you saying that you would pay $60 for dinner at South High, Gloria? Would you actually come then?

This is Robert Kirby's column from Sunday's newspaper. He's very close to our age. I enjoy his column a lot.

I was looking forward to time at South High too, but it is the getting together that is bringing me to the reunion. Maybe I will just go walk the halls while everyone plays golf.  Any non- golfers up for watersking on the bay?

05/20/15 11:33 AM #2123

Dale Charlie Salazar

I guess this is why we have committees that most of us wont serve on.  Decisions made are from the volunteers using their god given grey matter, their best juices and whatever else goes into these discussions.  I also was looking forward to the dance at South but alas I was not on the committee so it is mine to accept and move on.

It is what it is.  What can we do to move forward?
