We Honor You Today

©

Published: May 2017

To all of our veterans
Far and near.
We thank you for your service
For all those years.

You sacrificed your time,
And some gave your life.
You preserved our freedom
By willingly paying the price.

Many of you
Were sent overseas.
You were wounded in battle,
With scars and disease.

But courageous and brave,
You weathered the storm.
You faced every battle
With faith and beyond.

We honor you with joy
For all that you've done.
You stood strong for our country,
For our daughters and sons.

So no one stands alone,
We walk hand in hand.
Remember, we are with you.
Together we shall stand.

We salute you today.
Hear what we say.
Let our words speak eloquently
In this special way.

On this day,
Let us express our love and thanks
For the sacrifice you paid.
You served in honor
For many years and days,
And we will never forget
How you were strong and brave.

Thank you Char

Even thou I didn't serve my Son did. He is a Marine and served two tours in Afganistan. He came home whole in body but the mental scares are present. He served and I and my wife served with him. We gave him all the support we could. We tried to make Him feel safe when He came back. And even now try to help in any way we can. P.T.S.D. is real. He lives it and we felt/feel it too. Those were some of the hardest years we lived through.

I never pass a Vet. with out thanking him or her for there servise and there sacrifice. They all come back wounded.

Thanks to all of You who served!

How can I help you? I may not have lived it but I have ears to hear you and maybe help you get to that point where you don't keep living  it over and over again. My heart and love goes out to you.

Wayne, I am so grateful you shared your family's story and your son's personal effects of military service. God bless him and you along with your wife as you nurture and love him!  I felt his sacrifices which are too real and then realized the deep effects his service introduced to loved ones every where.  Saddened, grateful and now more aware of these young soldiers thanks to your message.

THank you for sharing your story about your son, Wayne. My husband, Eskild served in Vietnam. He doesn't like to talk about it so I know very few details, but I'm proud of him. He didn't even have to go since he was born in Canada and didn't move to the USA until he was 15. He could have just gone back to Canado but he did his stint.

Thank you for sharing your story Wayne.  I can empathize with your son as my brother suffered PTSD coming home from Vietnam.  We shared a bedroom and I recall him screaming in his sleep at night and waking up in a sweat.  If I tried to awaken him he would come up swinging.

The sad part is in those days PTSD was not widely recocgnized as a true sympton Soldiers would bring home from war and brother would refuse to talk about it unitl we started college.

My best to your son and you.  You are in my prayers.  We all need to support our Vets.  Please thank him for his service.

Although initial listeners may have interpreted it as a song about a broken relationship, Gates revealed that it was written in memory of his father who died in 1963 before he achieved his success with Bread.
