I think the element I'm missing here is the respect.  I suffered discriminaiton at school in the 60s at the hands of racists and bigots.  The teachers refused to intervene because I was supposed to be a better person than them and ignore the name calling and beatings.  Problem for me Richard was I couldn't change to meet their standards.  I was still dark and was still Catholic.  The respect for me and mine didn't start up until the late 70s or early 80s when the majority began to rethink their antique attitudes toward race and religion.

Fast forward to now and there is a much different debate that touches more closely to home for everyone.  Who is in our bathroom?

So often in difficult situaitons we tend to fall back on our established patterns.  We should, on the other hand, seek to understand and offer respect first instead of last.

What is wrong with my recommendation of using either unisex or family bathrooms?  How did transgenders use the restroom before now?  I see it as another way of making a statement. Do what you did before and keep your private life, private.

Well, what can you do when space and time are so limited?
If condencenting then I hit the mark because it was meant to be. I found the discussion to be inappropriate and biased to begin with and this is not the appropriate place for venting such personal biases when someone else becomes a target. Gerd's responses were misunderstood and misread. I love the opportunity we have here to stay connected and agree that some subjects should be left to other platforms for discussion.

Gerd, I totally agree with Unisex restrooms as long as there are individual stalls inside the restroom where there is a modicum of privacy.

Again, I must state that I was the one who proposed that religion and politics be kept out of our posts. But if someone wants to push his personal opinions that I don't agree with I am going to counter with my opinions.

Charlotte I don't remember it being a proposal at all but more of a directive issued by a dictator. I ran this through an improved spell checker, hope it meets your approval, I don't want you to suspend my literary privileges.

I will admit to be pedantic and annoying; but I'm not claiming dictatorship. I'm a woman and a liberal and you all vastly outnumber me so that rules me out as your unwanted tyrant. Richard, you tickle me.

At the bottom of this post see the character I think I'm most like.

Paul, did you delete another post before anyone could see it? Thanks for the cue anyway.

Why did you delete it again? It was great music. Put it back! I guess I'll have to find some mariachi music myself!

What do you think of this cover of "The Sound of Silence"?

Charlotte Warr (Andersen)

I need to try to have this attitude!

Paul Simon likes that cover of Sounds of Silence. So that's enough for me. I like it as well.

I agree. I still like Simon and Garfunkel's original better, but this cover is very powerful.

I have a crazy fear that Trump will be the next President

You and me both. And this column by Leonard Pitts from this morning's Tribune makes me worry that even if Trump loses we'll still have "yuge" problems:

Since y'all brought up politics again.........  devil

Federal overreach?

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2016/05/12/feds-schools-transgender-bathrooms-letter-title-ix/84311104/

So if a guy feels like a girl one day, he will be allowed into the girl's locker room?  Regardless of the 'equpment' he takes in with him?  Based on feelings instead of biological evidence.  For some reason Shania Twain's song, Man I Feel Like a Woman, comes to mind.

We are so worried about offending ONE and not so much offending the MASSES.  Donald Trump is the least of our worries.  The song, Feelings, by Morris Albert, comes to mind.  Amazing how songs can predict the future.

BTW, interesting observation by a psychiatrist from the right wing wacko Johns Hopkins University who has studied transgenders for over 40 years:

http://www.cnsnews.com/blog/michael-w-chapman/johns-hopkins-psychiatrist-transgendered-men-dont-become-women-they-become

But then again it's more about how you perceive yourself ... It started with Bill Clinton, considered as the "first black president" by Toni Morrison.  "white skin notwithstanding, this is our first black President."

Where is June Cleaver when we need her?

With respect to Pitts' article, last i remember, more hate and violence is spewed by Black Lives Matter and Occupy Wall Street.  Can't  blame that on Trump or the right wing.  I don't recall Tea Party folks causing mayhem.

We already have huge problems.  Too numerous to list and not in the mood.  Donald will make them 'huger'?

Gerd I don't think it qualifies as politics any more, I think it resembles Saturday night live more than anything else.
