Mr Andrews was my history. I remember all the girls in class had a crush on  him.  Did something happen to Mr Andrews?

I just watched a documentary on KUED PBS station: Unspoken - America's Native American Boarding Schools. Very interesting, very sad but optimistic at the end. George Henry was mentioned as being a very excellent teacher for one of the students at East High. Bravo, George!

My adopted brother Aaron (a Navajo) spent his first 4 years before coming to live with my family, in an Native American boarding school. His treatment there was very cruel and sad.  Last time I saw a show about the schools, I ended up with hives all over so badly my eyes were swollen shut.  It makes me so angry to think about it.

Aaron is now a very successful social worker in the Salt Lake Valley.  I suppose his young past has made him very good at his job, and a good strong man...but it shouldn't have been. angry

Unfortunately, the road to Hell is paved with good intensions. I am glad for you and your son. Hopefully we all learn from these kinds of things.

Speaking of uncomfortable institutions:  In honor of Vet's day I pulled this item from my scrap book.  You have two classmates here. Obviously one is me, but who is the other?  Next question: where are we in the picture?  They also treated we partcipants very badly. called us nasty names, made us run a lot but in the end we were among the best fighting men in the world and prepared to prove it.  We were ready to fight and die for our Country.

Chuck, pretty sure I spotted you. But I guess I don't remember enough faces to figure out who the other classmate is. Tell us please.

okay Charlotte. Salazar top row far left, Larry Stettler top row far right.  Weren't we cute.  FYI Stettler and I finished 2nd & 3rd in the company two mile run.  Our friends Yamamoto & Salabaria finished 1st & 4th.  We were in the best shape of our lives.  Honored to wear the green.

I don't think I knew Larry Stetler. And there's not a picture or any onformation for him in our classmate profiles.

I guess you're right.  He never registered for the site.  He is in the yearbook.  Stettler was not involved in a lot around school, like me, but he was fun.  He drove a red 66 GTO with tri-power which he drove into the backend of a Vette on State Street one night in senior year putting Russ Dekorver through the windshield.  He also wore a beard thorugh the second half of senior year.  You could find him behind the shops listening to music.

This pic from our Family Reunion in 2007.  Two of my older brothers holding a flag the depicts the Native pride in our family and the pride that we served.  Both of these guys are gone now but are among the five brothers in the family who served.
