Candida, thanks for posting the link to the obit for Richard Green's wife, it was a very nice service. Nice to see Candida, Randall, Jim & Eloise, and others from our class at the services. Paul Michelsen's brother Mark was also there, we were neighbors growing up. Nice to catch up with him a little. Too bad that this kind of event is almost the only one where we "run into" each other any more. Anyone have plans for some kind of get-together for this coming summer, or do we need to wait for 2020 to get one? (Maybe I have already missed an announcement already since I lurk some but don't check often, even weekly, for updates.) Good to hear from each of you Cubbies!
Hey Paul, thanks for stirring memories of the good ol' days days back in high school; especially of graduation and the culmination of that amazing stage in our young lives.
Your post prompted me to again view the "Reflections" Video (link on the left of this page eight down from Prez Kennedy) - sights and sounds from that era, pics from our yearbooks - bringing back a lot of memories; as well the "Memorium" portion of that video and a moment to remember those of our class no longer with us.
We truly have something special in the close relationships we have maintained over these many years - very rare indeed . . .
Again, big "thanks" to Preston for putting together and covering ongoing costs of maintaining this great website as a medium for we of the Class of '70 to stay in touch - despite the diverse and far-flung paths of our individual lives.
just seeing your names brings back fond feelings. Some of you know that I have had the privilage to work for industrial Supply for 45 years. Started here 2 days after my mission to Brasil. Some may know that Industrial is located on 17th south and 3rd West, three block west of South! I drive by almost everyday going somewhere for lunch even sometimes to Macdonalds. Lucky to still be close to the school
Have a great summer all and Happy birthday to Koji and Ray Alt!
Charlotte, I think there are a lot more people that can relate to your Janis Ian song, than not! Most, not willing to admit it. I didn't consider your posting it a downer.
On June 9, Glen Campbell‘s final album, Adios, will be released. It’s a special project — Campbell recorded the disc shortly after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and embarking on his Goodbye Tour — so it’s fitting that The Boot’s readers have named Adios Album of the Month for June 2017.
Campbell — who is now in the advanced stages Alzheimer’s — recorded Adios in Nashville. Campbell’s wife Kim wrote the record’s heartfelt liner notes, in which she describes how the project was inspired by an afternoon spent with Campbell’s longtime banjo player, Carl Jackson (who, it’s worth noting, set up the couple on their first date, more than 34 years ago).
“We reminisced about all of the songs that Glen had always wanted to record but had never gotten around to. Carl laid down some basic tracks and vocals for Glen to study and practice in preparation for his final session,” Kim Campbell writes. She notes that her husband’s diagnosis added a level of immediacy to the project: “Glen’s abilities to play, sing and remember songs began to rapidly decline after his diagnosis in 2011. A feeling of urgency grew to get him into the studio one last time to capture what magic was left. It was now or never.”
According to Kim Campbell, the making of Adiós was both “heartbreaking” and “beautiful.” Glen Campbell’s early struggles with dementia caused him to forget the words to songs that he had performed for his entire career, leading Jackson to “[hold] up sheets of paper with large print lyrics and [feed] them to him one line at a time;” still, the “Rhinestone Cowboy” singer was “clearly ecstatic about being in the studio.”
In order to give Campbell’s final album “polish and charm,” fellow country icons such as Willie Nelson and Vince Gill lend their talents to the disc, as did Campbell’s children Ashley, Shannon and Cal, all of whom added backing vocals.
Charlotte- I had a son back with us when he changed jobs back to Cache Valley, who finally found his soul mate/true love at almost 37! However, now I miss him because he was so good at fixing things...including my computer. Still, it's good to know, as I always told him, there was a beautiful gal out there somewhere waiting for him to marry her. Now, after 2 years...he's a Daddy besides.
